I found a letter a couple of months ago that was written, from London (England), in 1859 by the sister (Julia) of my Great Great Grandfather (Jeremiah). I have researched my family tree in the United States for many years but never trace my family’s roots into it’s origin in Europe (Ireland). The letter mentions all the siblings (and their status) of my ancestor, Jeremiah Fitzgerald, who immigrated to the United States prior to his marriage to the 16 year old Mary O’Brien in 1836 (in Boston). I know Jeremiah’s family was from either county Cork or Kerry in Ireland but that is all I knew. His sister, Julia, writes that her brothers Timothy and Dennis had already past away, Patrick was doing OK, Catherine moved to Australia, Daniel is very busy working and raising a family and the her mother is dying. She gives her return address as Spitalfield Market in London in care of Alexander Laporte (who I found owned a fruit stand in the market). My question is; how do I find a family in Ireland that consisted of the siblings Jeremiah, Timothy, Dennis, Julia, Catherine and Daniel. This combination of names can not be too hard to find if the information is out there. I would appreciate any help or suggestions, Vince.

I am new to the ancestry search process. I am trying to find my ancestry on my Father's, father side of the family.

He was born on Feb 4, 1923 in Clay County West Virginia, his mother was Elizabeth Truman who died on Feb 17, 1923. My Father's name was Alvah Emerson Davis. He received that name from his mother's sister, Lola Truman Davis and her husband Enoch Davis, who adobted my father and raised him. For this I am very greatful and I had the honor of having them for grandparents.

However, my Father's mother ws not married and I have never been able to find out who my Father's real father was. Not sure if anyone besides his mother knew, but because I have never been able to get any information from his adoptive family I assume that someone knew and burried it.

I can't help but think that his real father went on to get married and have a family that I would be related to.

So, I am hoping that by posting this on the web that someone who knew Elizabeth Truman in 1923 has somehow passed this story and secret down the line and would understand my desire to know.

I know it's a long shot, but it's a starting point.

Help if you can.

What is your ezine's purpose?

This is perhaps the most important question to answer. Define your most desired target response, or two.

Is your ezine a vehicle to advertise your own business to readers? Is it a way to bring them to your website, or request your brochure, or contact you by phone or fax or email?

Is it to announce new additions to your site, or special offers and discounts, or a new product launch? Do you want to instruct and educate (articles, news updates), entertain (jokes, riddles), inspire (quotes, advice) or sell (products, services)?

Your Ezine Content

It doesn't matter

* what your e-zine is about
* or how well formatted your ezine is
* or that you administer your e-zine excellently
* or that you are the top expert in your area
* or that you have a ezine subscriber list of many thousands

The Most Important Thing About Your E-Zine Is Its CONTENT

With every single ezine issue, you'll be judged harshly by your readers, many of them receiving your e-zine for the first time. And impressing them with exceptionally good content is the only trick in your bag!

What forms of ezine content should you use ?

It's your e-zine. You know best - or should - what your audience wants. Here are some suggestions:

* editorials
* feature articles
* news clips or stories
* aggregating the best content
* reviews
* announcements
* website updates
* interviews
* interactive features - polls, feedback, discussion groups, forums, chat
More about Internet marketing and ezine publishing here.

Every year in Erie County, New York the United Way has an event called The United Way Day of Caring where local businesses allow their employees to volunteer and break away from the usual work day to help the qualified United Way benificieries either clean up, paint or perform other meaningful tasks.

This year my employer Synacor was tasked with Concordia Cemetery in Buffalo. About 18 Syncorians helped mow the lawn and paint the main fence.

A group of about 8 men (of which I was part of) lifted 200+ pounds of tombstones uncovering the individual name and other information. This was a very interesting and fullfilling job. As a genealogist I believe we made a difference in helping stand these tombstone upright. We would place loose stone on the bottom of the stone after digging it out to at least attempt to prevent the stone from falling and sinking again.

I met one of the caretakers of the cemetery Wayne Retke. Wayne actually has many relatives in Concordia. He said the records have been microfilmed and they are working to get a new web master to update the website and allow searching of the records. He doesn't know when this will happen.

I will update this entry when I find out some more information.

This blog is obviously about Arney Genealogy

I will begin with my personal Arney "brick wall"
Jacob Arney

I seek to solve the mystery of Jacob Arney, who died in Lincoln County, North Carolina in 1784.

Part of the dilemma is that this Jacob Arney has been wrongfully tied to a Frederick Ernigh, who arrived in the USA in 1732. Most researchers of this particular line of Arney's tie this Jacob to Frederick, incorrectly. Dr. Tom Rider, who was one of the few who began this research, back in the early 1950's, also made such an assumption. Then in researching the Pennsylvania State Archives, Dr. Rider realized his mistake (that the Jacob, son of Frederick, had died in Pennsylvania, etc.) and has spent the better part of 50 years trying to undo or break this tie or branch. Unfortunately, eventhough Dr. Rider was able to prove this Jacob was not the son of Frederick, he has been unable to prove who he was the son of. Even the LDS records, tie Jacob to Frederick, so you can see how far this error has gone. Most "Genealogy" websites and the people to use them, to add their families, continue to promote this error.
When I realized that my Jacob was not the son of Frederick, I removed him (Frederick) from my branch of the Arneys, but I'm in the minority on this issue (along with Dr. Rider).

What do I know about my Jacob Arney?
I know that he died in Lincoln County, North Carolina in 1784.
I know that his (original) will, still exists today at the North Carolina State Archives (in Raleigh, NC)
I know that Jacob's son, Christian Arney, Sr. (who fought in the American Revolution) also died in Lincoln County, NC.
I know that Christian was born between 1749 & 1750, in York(town), York County, Pennsylvania.
I know that Jacob moved his family (including Christian) from Pennsylvania to North Carolina in 1767.
I know that Jacob had another son, Peter Arney, who was born in Tryon (now Lincoln) County, NC in 1772.
I know that Peter was bound (as an "orphan" by the court) over to a John Fullenwider (Fulenwider) in 1787 (at the age of 15), to learn the trade of a miller, until the age of 21.
By Christian Arney, Sr. own words, his parents names were Jacob and Elizabeth and they came from Switzerland (date unknown).
Jacob Arney's will yields little evidence, only the bottom third of his will is readable (the rest has faded over time) and you can make out he leaves his wife, Elizabeth, and "children" everything.

I do not want to be a "stand on the shoulders of others" type of genealogy researcher, as most hobbyist are these days (they simple accept as fact what others write, without double checking the information or source themselves). Hence, the reason the error has been promoted for over 50 years. Even the LDS is not fact, simply information provided to them (which does not make it fact).

I look for, what I term (DTP, Definitive Tangible Proof), tax rolls, baptisms/births, census, marriages, land deals, etc.

Jacob presents many obstacles,
1. First and foremost that he died before the first official Federal Census of 1790 (having died in 1784).
2. People of that era named their children with similar or identical first names.
3. People of that era, were illiterate (which means they could not even spell their own name, when asked). This means that when their name was recorded (for tax rolls, land deals, etc) it was up the the person recording the name to spell it as he saw fit (either by transliteration or if they had spelt a similar sounding name before use that spelling for it).
4. The limitations, of the best source for Pennsylvania genealogy research, the Pennsylvania State Archives. It has very little useful information on York County.
5. Birth or baptism records (usually recorded by the church) for Christian Arney, Sr. have yet to be located, if they even still exist. (If found, they would list his parents and be able to confirm his information).
6. Tax rolls or land deals (purchases or sales) for this Jacob Arney, in Pennsylvania, have yet to be located (plenty for the "other" Jacob in other counties in PA) in York County, PA or elsewhere.
7. Birth year and birth place of Jacob Arney is unknown, further complicating locating any DTP.
8. If we "assume" that Christian Arney, Sr. was right, and his parents (Jacob and Elizabeth) were from Switzerland, we must locate the ship (name and date of arrival) of when they arrived in the USA.
[Note: the other "Jacob" and his parents were believed to be from Switzerland as well]
9. So, we have DTP (land deals & will) for Jacob Arney, once in North Carolina.
What we do not have, is record of him (and Christian) in Pennsylvania.
10. Finally, one of the biggest obstacles is getting people, who research this particular branch of the Arney's, to let go of (Frederick) and help try to solve this mystery.

Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated. Thank you for your time, consideration and cooperation, I truly appreciate it.

Two Brothers Set Out For Poland From N.Y.

BULLETIN
HARBOR GRACE, N. F.,

Aug. 8. — The Polish-American brothers, Benjamin and Joseph Adamowicz, on a test flight from New York In preparation for a flight to Poland, crashed here this afternoon. The flyers were believed to have been injured.

BROOKLYN, N. Y., Aug. 8. (AP)

Two Polish-American brothers, Benjamin and Joseph Adamowicz who hope to fly from New York to their ancestral country, Poland, took off from Floyd Bennett airport early today on what they said was merely a "test flight" to Harbor Grace, N. F.

Airport attendants believed, however, that there was a strong possibility they might continue on across the ocean, with or without a stop at Harbor Grace.

Start Unexpectedly.

Taking off unexpectedly at 5:05 a. m., (EST), without making any announcement of their Intention until just before the hopoff, they took more than 500 gallons of gasoline with them, attendants said.

Previously they had announced they would not make the trans-Atlantic hop until the third week in August.

Their big monoplane "White Eagle" powered with a 300 horsepower motor, was formerly "The Liberty," In which Otto Hillig and Holger Hoiriis flew to Denmark two years ago.

Another Pilot Along.

Emil Birgen, another pilot, accompanied the two brothers, it was learned. They did not announce whether he would accompany them on the eventful hop across the ocean.

The Adamowicz brothers are short, stocky and uncommunicative men who have evinced more Interest in attending to their plane than to talking about themselves or their plans. They live in Brooklyn and
have been making preparations for the trans-Atlantic flight for several
days.

Brothers Adamowicz Took Off For Poland At Daybreak This Morning

HARBOR GRACE, Newfoundland, June 29.—INS— The brothers Adamowicz, Poland bound, took off just after sunrise today in their plane, "the City of Warsaw," at 4:56 Eastern Daylight time.

After early indecision as to whether they would start today because of reported high pressure conditions off the coast of Ireland, Joseph and Benjamin Adamowicz ordered their big Bellanca plane trundled out on the runway.

Both had slept soundly and breakfasted heartily. They climbed into the cabin, shook hands with the airport officials and took over the controls.

Heading into a mild wind the big, heavily loaded plane gathered speed and before the end of the runway was reached glided into the air with apparent ease. It was a perfect take off.

The flyers circled the field once gaining altitude and could be seen waving farewell to the few spectators gathered in the cool of the morning.

Then the plane headed east and slowly diminished in size until it was a speck over the hazy horizon, then disappeared. Another trans-Atlantic flight had started.

Most enthusiastic among those at the field was Holgar Hoiriis, the Danish flyer who had piloted the plane up from New York.

He had checked the "City of Warsaw" and found everything in perfect condition before the flight. Ben Adamowicz took over the controls from him and it was he that guided the plane down the runway on the takeoff.

Hoiriis threw his hat in the air when he saw the wheels leave the ground. He declared it was one of the best aeronautic performances he had ever witnessed.

The flyers have gasoline to last them 40 hours. They expect to make Warsaw in 33. They had thermous bottles of hot coffee, water, and roast chicken in their luncheon basket in the planic the plane.

Take Off From Brooklyn Field Early Today -- Will Refuel at harbor Grace, N.F., Before Atlantic Flight.

Broklyn, N.Y., June 28 (AP)
The Adamowicz brothers, Benjamin and joseph, silent partners in business and in flying, took off at 5:40 a.m. eastern standard time today on a flight to Warsaw, Poland, their ancestral home.

Promised fine flying weather for the next 48 hours they headed for Harbor Grace, N.F., there to refuel and turn out across at the Atlantic to their native land.

They were accompanied in their red, white and blue monoplane, "Warsaw" by holger hoirlis, who flew to Copenhagen in 1931 in the same plane hoiriis was to leave the brothers at harbor Grace.

This great white ship rumbled down 3,000 feet of the 4,100 foot runway before finally lifting heavily into the air. After rising to only about 50 feet, it "mushed" down but then gathered altitude and rose safely to disappear in the early morning haze to the north. Only about 100 persons saw the take off.
