Brothers Adamowicz Took Off For Poland At Daybreak This Morning

HARBOR GRACE, Newfoundland, June 29.—INS— The brothers Adamowicz, Poland bound, took off just after sunrise today in their plane, "the City of Warsaw," at 4:56 Eastern Daylight time.

After early indecision as to whether they would start today because of reported high pressure conditions off the coast of Ireland, Joseph and Benjamin Adamowicz ordered their big Bellanca plane trundled out on the runway.

Both had slept soundly and breakfasted heartily. They climbed into the cabin, shook hands with the airport officials and took over the controls.

Heading into a mild wind the big, heavily loaded plane gathered speed and before the end of the runway was reached glided into the air with apparent ease. It was a perfect take off.

The flyers circled the field once gaining altitude and could be seen waving farewell to the few spectators gathered in the cool of the morning.

Then the plane headed east and slowly diminished in size until it was a speck over the hazy horizon, then disappeared. Another trans-Atlantic flight had started.

Most enthusiastic among those at the field was Holgar Hoiriis, the Danish flyer who had piloted the plane up from New York.

He had checked the "City of Warsaw" and found everything in perfect condition before the flight. Ben Adamowicz took over the controls from him and it was he that guided the plane down the runway on the takeoff.

Hoiriis threw his hat in the air when he saw the wheels leave the ground. He declared it was one of the best aeronautic performances he had ever witnessed.

The flyers have gasoline to last them 40 hours. They expect to make Warsaw in 33. They had thermous bottles of hot coffee, water, and roast chicken in their luncheon basket in the planic the plane.
